Open Source Revolution

The Corporate Internet is Dying

The old corporate internet is dying.

Reddit has been removing APIs and in protest many moderators have made themselves private. This affected Google search because most of the time a Reddit page would be top of the search results when people ask questions using the search engine. Now Reddit is allegedly planning to remove moderators who are protesting and replace them with their own more obedient ones. Tech tyranny at its finest.

Twitter recently stopped working for everyone and the reason given by Elon Musk is that they are stopping data scraping by other tech companies on the site. You can no longer view the site without logging in using a Google account or creating a new account. Everyone has been reporting getting rate limited and unable to do anything on the site.

There was a Mastodon post I read that said Twitter was basically doing a DDos on itself due to problems in their code.

Interestingly enough this comes right as there are massive riots in France that have the chance to escalate into a civil war. The French government has also been threatening those who are documenting the situation to try and make them shut down their Twitter accounts.

The number of bots being reported on sites like Quora and others has increased too. The dead internet theory is increasingly becoming a reality.

So with this total collapse of the internet its easy to feel that its just all over and that the golden age of the internet is over. But I believe we can bring about a new golden age with the Open Source Revolution. We can leave the sinking ship that is the consolidated corporate internet and sail our own seas once again. 🏴‍☠️
