Two New Dangers to The Free Internet
There are two very serious threats to the freedom of the internet emerging from Google and the United Kingdom's government.
Google's "Web Integrity"
Google plans to implement a "Web Integrity" API to restrict access to websites unless they are approved by them. This is according to them the way to make the internet "safe" which of course when they say that they mean safer for global tyrants to keep control of the flow of information.
United Kingdom wants to stop end-to-end encryption
The United Kingdom government is planning to give new powers to OFCOM to spy on every device and see what they are posting before it is encrypted. They intend to do this by forcing all apps to allow OFCOM to rea the data that is sent by their users. This is of course under the guise of "protecting children" which is something the British government has historically had an atrocious record on. They don't care about children, they care about control and implementing a law like this weakens end-to-end encryption worldwide as more countries will likely join in.
Conclusion
This is exactly why we need a new internet and an open source revolution. We won't be ensnared by these draconian laws. We will always create our own path and we will never surrender.
